Before you buy you should first evaluate for what are you going to use this laptop, if you’re going to use it for surfing, typing, moderate gaming or even simply video editing you should get the MacBook Air, since it’s going to save you weight and if you’re concerned on portability that’s a huge factor. If you’re going to use it for more demanding tasks like autocad or Photoshop where you need more processing power, you should go for a Mac Book Pro but the additional weight might not be for you. In other words if you really need portability go for a Mac Book Air but if you need power go for a Mac Book Pro.
Personally I would go for a Mac Book Air, the design is simply superb in my opinion, the low weight is really a deal breaker. I haven’t used an optical drive since 2008 most of my files are in a back-up hard drive and it doesn’t matter whether or not the laptop has an optical drive and with the advent of the Mac App Store, the less you’ll use those CDs/DVDs. Also since we’re talking about a mac, I don’t consider specifications a major issue, since macs don’t really have the slogan “The most powerful laptop in the planet”, if you really need performance, consider a Windows alternative since Windows PCs provide the best performance/price ratio. Chassis-wise though, only a handful of Windows laptops comes close to the MacBooks, HP Envy, Sony Vaio and Samsung 9 Series were the only ones, I think.

Macbook Air vs. Macbook Pro, which one is the best for a high school student?
Im really interested in buying a Macbook, but Im not sure if I should get the Pro one or the Air one. I like both of them. Im not really interested in the Air as in the Pro because it seems so thin that it may just fall out of your hand easily and plus I don’t like a laptop to be extermely thin and extremely not heavy. I will be just using the laptop for as you know, word processing and PowerPoint and other Microoft office stuff, surf the web, use it to make presentations, and burn Audio CDs for only a few times since Im not really use it for multimedia but that doesnt mean I’ll like it if its crappy. I know that many of you may say both of them are good but please tell me which one is best for a high school student that will have the above uses.
Plus, if you have a Macbook, do you have a Macbook Air or a Macbook Pro and what is your experience with it?
Thanks to anyone who answers.
Im not a rich asshole, I searched on Answers and found out that many people recommend Macbook for students.
Plus, PCs have hundred of thousands of viruses while a Mac only has a few. So that’s the reason Im asking if a Macbook is the right choice for me.

Given your usage, neither. The Air is a slow and minimalist machine for rich jetsetters who own already own another computer, and the Macbook Pro is for graphical artists, people who do CAD work, poeople who play the latest games, and other very demanding users. New aluminum Macbook if you insist on an Apple, but I think the Best Buy $279 Asustek with Ubuntu Linux + $50 external DVD burner is a better pick for you. Why? It still does everything you want to do, which, in computational terms, is almost nothing, and could be done fine on my eight year old desktop! Also, the Ubuntu Linux OS has a similiarly flashy look, and most definitely isn’t XP or Vista.

Macbook air vs. Macbook pro 13″?
I am planning on getting a mac, and I am extremely stuck between choosing the macbook air, or macbook pro 13″ The macbook air is lighter, prettier, but it doesnt have a drive ( which doesnt really matter because I hardly use it) The pro 13″ has a drive, more dependent on fast internet and 3g specs, and 1 more thing … SOOOO MANY PPL USE THE PRO MORE and say it can break, which i am scared of. I just need a fast computer, pretty, good batteries, and echhhhhh u kno what i mean???? i swear that if you help me i will come over and give u xOXXoOOOxxxOOOXXXXXXXoOXOOOXxoxoxoOXOOOX (hugs and kisses)

Definitely go with the Macbook Pro 13 inch. The advantages of the Macbook Air over the Macbook Pro 13 inch is the size and weight. The Macbook Air is 1.5 lbs less than the macbook pro, and at its thickest point is .2 inches thinner than the Macbook Pro. But there are quite a few advantages of the Macbook Pro 13 inch over the Macbook Air. It has an edge to edge glass display, a faster and larger hard drive, a faster processor, a disk drive, SD Card reader, 2 more hours of battery life, and more ports. The Macbook Pro doesn’t break
I have the 15 inch model with dedicated graphics, and I LOVE it!! The best computer that I have ever used.

I am a second year college student, and i just recently bought the Macbook Air and i am LOVIN it!! I strongly recommend getting the macbook air because it is very light, thin and portable and just as fast as the pro. I had an hp laptop my first year in college weighing 4.5lb and 1.3 inch thick and it was such a PAIN carrying that around everywhere. Trust me you will carry your laptop around EVERYWHERE walking to classes so you want something small and light. The pro weights 4.5lbs and its about an inch thick. You DONT need a cd/dvd drive, have you notice that everything is downloadable online and transferred through flashdrives lately? We are moving out of the era of cd/dvd and apple knows that. And if you ever need to use a cd/dvd you can use the cd/dvd drive sharing that the macbook air provides or buy the superdrive. I recommend using the sharing because it cost $0. You can use your roommates cd/dvd drive because of this sharing feature. Plus the air has flash storage which is a hell of alot faster than spinning hard drives. And the air’s 13inch screen resolution is 1440by900(better) while the pro’s is 1366/by786(worse). So if you ask me you should get an air
plus it is SEXY! A macbook air is a thinner/smaller/lighter/SEXIER version of the macbook pro. All the features are the same except the air’s screen resolution is better and it has a solid state memory. The pro has a cd/dvd drive and a little bit faster processor and hd facetime camera. GET the AIR!

MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro for college?
I currently have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 Ghz processor, 4 GB RAM, and a 250 GB Hard Drive. I’ve been thinking on trading it in for a 11″ MacBook Air, but I’m not sure if I should go for it. If I do go for the air, it would either be the older model sporting a 1.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, or the newer one with the 1.6 Core i5. I’ll have to pay a $38 difference for the Core 2 Duo model, or a $160 difference for the newer Core i5. I don’t plan on using my laptop for graphics intensive applications. Should I stick with my current laptop or should I choose a new laptop?
admin answers:
I would suggest sticking with your current macbook pro. It has plenty of power, has the unibody case, and will run Os X lion just fine. So there really is not advantage to buying a new macbook pro. Wait at least 2 years before you buy a new one. Wait until there are some significant changes to the lineup.
Edit:
If you need more power then just get more memory and an ssd. You can do all that for around $300 if you dont buy from apple, but rather crucial and amazon.
