1) yes
2) you dont really need one considering people dont really create viruses for macs. However with newer interest in these machines the need is arising. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. (i’ve run my windows computer for 3 years and havn’t gotten a virus. Just dont be stupid about the internet and you’ll be fine).
3) you can purchase or download microsoft office. (best option, almost a necessity for uni students)
4) its the exact same thing. You can create and rename folders as you please. Just as in windows.
5) you can use any program that is compatible with the operating system. Obviously itunes and the “apple software” will be compatible.
6) there is no point. Itunes is superior when it comes to almost everything. It also uses less processing power in the background (saving your battery life)
7) files are files, find the program that can open them and you’ll be fine. You will most likely need office for mac though (microsoft). 8) yes yes and yes. But almost anything with a keyboard and battery does. (bluetooth is really useless on a laptop)
9) they are amazing, the battery life is unparallelled (sony’s is terrible) and you’re spending alot of really good hardware. A computer for 1300 from alienware would be a much better alternative if you want to stick to windows though… You arent paying JUST for the apple name. You’re paying for the best processors on the market from intel.
10) apple has a great support system for people switching. Look at the tutorial videos on how to use a mac and see what you think of the operating system (apples website). I would also suggest looking at alienware computers. They are great too… You might want to research computer hardware to see what you’re actually paying for before you jump to buy a new laptop :)

James asks…

Fujitsu tab pc lifebook t901 VS MacBook Air VS toshiba protege series?

Hi. I am going to major in banking and finance in uni and need to choose one of those abovementioned laptops. Main uses include word, PowerPoint, excel. In ur opinion, which is lightest, fastest( open many windows w/o lagging), has long battery life.

Price- not much issue
Branding– mac is obviously branded. Toshiba and fujitsu less branded but (I’ve checked) is made in Japan and will be more durable. Mac, however, is made in Chna so there remains some questions on it’s durability.

So, which would u recommend?
Thanks in advance for your help :-)
It would really help if I got advice by tomorrow.

Based on your situation, I’d say you should go with the 13 inch macbook pro. The air costs a lot with a lot less performance than the 13 inch pro. The only other contender is the 13 inch macbook, but for 200$ more you get .13 GHz more of processor, DDR3 RAM instead of the macbook’s DDR2 RAM, a 7 hour battery as opposed to the macbook’s 5 hour battery(plus the macbook pro’s battery can last up to 1000 charges, roughly 5 years), a backlit keyboard, a higher color gamut display, and the awesome aluminum unibody. Definitely go with the 13 inch macbook pro.

Lizzie asks…

Why does my new MacBook Pro 13″ battery die so quickly?

- screen is ALWAYS dimmed at 1 notch above black.
- my keyboard is NEVER backlit.
- I don’t use bluetooth or any USB connected devices.
- I always hide programs I’m using and don’t keep unnecessary ones running. Mostly only use Pages, Preview, Safari, & Stickies simultaneously.
- Always put my computer to sleep when I’m not using it.
It says my battery is 85% charged with 2:26 remaining. I am completely baffled!
Does using the internet/Air Port/Wifi often really have THAT big of an effect on battery life?
I just checked the actual battery time (ignoring time remaining) and its pretty accurate…unfortunately.
I last checked at 11:45 and 1hr20min later the battery is down to 40%! (it says 1:07 remaining).

Its a defect in the model. Apple reported this problem as few months back. You are going to have to contact Apple since the battery cannot be removed. Only they can fix it. Wifi does have a very big effect but Apple advertises a 6 hr minimum battery life on the new Macbook Pros so something is wrong with yours. My Dell XPS can last 3 hours with no Wifi and 2 hours with it.

Macbook 2010 Pro/Air or Alienware M11x for College?

1) I am majoring in business marketing (doesnt know if that matters) but I have been thinking over the 3 laptops for a long time now. I have done research on both and they both seem really good, but the only complaint i have with the Macs is that they are just way to overpriced.

2) People say that the battery life is just ok, that it can go 3 hrs without charge and some people complained that the M11x is that the hinge on it can easily break. (but idk if thats true considering all their laptops are all heavy duty).

3) I plan on web browsing and checking emails, Using Microsoft office, playing games like “Rift” ect. So If you guys can help out I would really appreciate it! =].

admin answers:

1) Both are overpriced, but with the best equipped Alienware M17X R3 you can get the basic model of Macbook Pro 17″. -_-’

2)That thing was fixed a while ago

3)For gaming either Pro or M11X (but since you are considereng Pro, why not M15X? Because Intel’s HD graphics are not that brilliant for gaming at all (which 13″ Pro has)).
