Your Questions About Macbook Pro

Sandra asks…

How early does the macbook pro get redeemed on lockerz?

From when the monthly redemption on lockerz starts, how long until the macbook pro is FRESH OUT. And approximately how many macbook pros does lockerz have available for the redemption.

admin answers:

Well the macbook takes like 5-10 minutes to get out (not very fast on lockerz redemptions) Ipods are out under 30 seconds, macs take pretty long till all of them are gone, so it’s pretty easy to get if you are at redemtion on time, but it’s nearly impossible to get video games/ipods

Ken asks…

Is asking for a macbook pro for christmas too much?

I really like apple and their products and I wanted to step it up with a macbook pro. I mean something better than my hp laptop i have now would be awesome. The only type of computer I’m looking for is a mac laptop. If a macbook pro is too expensive then what type of mac laptop should I ask for?

admin answers:

Depends on lots of things, like…

How NICE your parents are :)
how much money they have,
how recently they just bought your other laptop,
how old you are,
how good you are at convincing them,
whether you’ll let them use it ;)
whether they think you’d appreciate it, (eg, do you mistreat your current laptop)
whether you’re going to download viruses hahaha, loooool. :P

Lizzie asks…

My MacBook Pro is flashing a grey folder with a question mark and nothing else. How do I fix it?

My Two-year-old MacBook Pro is flashing a grey folder with a white question mark over a grey background. I cannot get it to do anything else. How do I resolve this? Is it a virus?

admin answers:

It sounds like OS X isn’t able to find a bootable drive. There may be a problem with your hard drive or your installation of OS X.

Check http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417

If that doesn’t help, boot into your restore disk and try to do an archive and install.

I recommend calling Apple if you got an extended warranty.

Richard asks…

Why will my new Macbook Pro not let anything connect to it with Bluetooth?

I’ve recently got a Macbook Pro but it won’t let me receive anything from other bluetooth devices. For example I have paired it with both my old Macbook and my phone and I am able to send files from my Pro but whenever I try to receive them it just says unable to connect? Has this happened to anyone else?

admin answers:

Go into setting and turn bluetooth on

James asks…

ARGH! I scratched my Macbook pro!! ;(… help?

I made a tiny little scratch on my brand new mac book pro… im so sad:’( but I have two questions

1) is there a silver apple pen i can buy to fill in the chip? Also if I take it into apple can the fix it? Its only tiny but I want it gone! If anyone knows how much this will cost approx, that will be a great help.

2) Shall i buy a hard shell or a gel skin for it? From your own experiences what provides better protection??

Thanks guys :)

Jess

admin answers:

I have never heard of such a things as a pen that could fill it in. The only thing close is the pen to fill in scratches for car paint, however that wouldn’t work since the surface is not a glossy paint. The apple store could definitley send it in to have the whole piece replaced, however unless it was to get very scratched and unatractive then it would not be worth the few hundred dollars.
With a case on it you probably wouldn’t be able to see them very much anyway. A plastic shell case would look nice, since you could get them with several types of images however they will collect scratches much easier than the laptop itself. A gell case would be ok since it wouldnt scratch, however I find that they tend to fit the laptops awkwardly and don’t look good after a while since they collect dirt and grime.
One alternative that you may want to look into is the invisible shield by ZAGG. It is paper thin and near impossible to scratch, and if it was to scratch they will replace it for free. This definitly hid the few scratches I had on my laptop.

Should I get a case or a cover. I can only get one. :/ if I get a cover it’s a speck see thru satin. if I get a case it would be an incase. I think I should get a cover, but idk much about this.

Regarding the dimensions no they are not the most notable difference is the height (when closed)

Your Questions About Macbook Air Superdrive

Michael asks…

Does the macbook air superdrive…?

Does the macbook air superdrive need to be plugged into the computer in order to work? I was watching a movie yesterday and unplugged the superdrive but was able to watch ten minutes of the movie before it went off saying something was wrong with the disk.

Also, when using the superdrive, does it vibrate uncontrollably? Mine vibrates so loudly that its hard to hear over it and it begins to move around and fall off my desk. Is this normal?

Thanks for the help.

admin answers:

If you look carefully, you will see the cord. It is not removable, so there it is. Plug it in.

A disc may vibrate if it has a thick label. Is it a painted label? Test with a blank disc. If a blank disc doesn’t cause much vibration, the problem is the painted disc.

Daniel asks…

Who would be willing to buy a MacBook Air ’11 with pink cover case and SuperDrive for $1000?

I have my MacBook Air and I need to sell it to help me move in January. I spent over $1600 for all of it and I just want to make some kind of money.

Nancy asks…

MacBook Air or MacBook Pro ?

Hi , I’m a 15 years old student and i’m getting one of these comuters these days , I need a
computer for everyday use , sometimes for school projects and rarely watching movies.
Everyday use includes: Internet browsing and researches , Music , a little photo and video
editing sometimes for fun. The school projects include: Microsoft Word , Powerpoint
presentations and rarely video editing. And i’m going to watch movies sometimes. I need the
notebook with me almost all the time and i dont need to use huge amounts of memory. I’m thinking to pick between

MacBook Air (1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM ,128GB flash storage1 , NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics+SuperDrive pour MacBook Air Apple + USB Ethernet Adapter )

and MacBook Pro (13-inch: 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB Memory 250GB hard drive1 SD card slot Built-in battery (10 hours)2 NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics)

Which one do you think I need ? I appreciate your answers :)

I love the MacBook Air and I would get it also with some missing features … if you dont recomend it to mee i want to know the reason ?

admin answers:

In general, if size and weight are most important, get a MacBook Air. If expansion (and an internal optical drive) is more important, get a 13″ MacBook Pro. For your needs — Internet browsing, music, basic photo and video editing and school — either would work well and since it sounds like you really want the MacBook Air, that should be your choice.

However, for more details, an in-depth comparison of the 11″ and 13″ MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Pro (as well as the entry-level MacBook) also can be useful:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook-air/macbook-air-faq/differences-between-macbook-air-late-2010-macbook-macbook-pro-mid-2010.html

For MacBook Air and MacBook Pro performance, specifically, this additionally can be worthwhile:

Hope this helps!

Chris asks…

What should i do with my new macbook air?

So i just recently got a new macbook air 11 inch. It was a very generous gift. But i was debating on if i should return the product for a 13 inch pro, or keep it. Im a freshman in high school, laptops are recommended for where i go (catholic school) you bring them to school to take notes and things like that. I could buy a superdrive for the air, because im a big sims 3 player. But its not that big of a deal, i have an imac at home i can play sims on. I just want to know what you guys think i should do. Return for a macbook pro or keep it. Also, we are switching to all ipads next year so laptops are not nessacary. I don’t know if that bit of information changes anything.

admin answers:

I would accept the gift keep it and use it…

Paul asks…

How do I backup files using DiskWarrior on my Macbook Air?

So my MBA has a failing HDD.

When I launch the OS, I get the Apple logo on a white screen with a grey progress bar at the bottom (the OS attempting to fix the drive) and then the machine hangs.

I’m able to use my Superdrive to access Disk Utilities from the MAC OS X DVD. The utilities tells me that I have “Invalid Sibling Link” and that it cannot repair the drive.

Using CMD-S I’m able to enter single user mode and try to fix using fsck (-yf and -r). Using those I get errors indicating other problems, including “invalid node structure” and DISK FULL ERROR (although I have 6 GB free according to other stats).

I tried to re-install the OS, but the OS will see the drive but won’t mount it to write on it, so I can’t archive or re-install.

I purchased DiskWarrior and it’s able to find the data on the drive, and rebuild a directory structure, however it cannot replace the directory structure. I can access preview and see the files. DiskWarrior tells me that I should copy those files to another drive.

However I can’t copy those files to another drive because I have an Air – with only one USB port and it’s occupied by the Superdrive running DiskWarrior. I’ve tried to switch out the drives at different points, but DiskWarrior just crashes or hangs or won’t recognize the newly added drive. I’ve tried a USB splitter but in that scenario the computer won’t read the superdrive.

Thoughts on how I solve my problem? If the drive is failing I’d like to replace it. I have a recent backup but there is newer information I’d still like to retrieve from the drive, or I’d like to try and repair and re-install the OS on this drive.

admin answers:

You can’t use a USB hub because the SuperDrive requires more power than a standard USB port can provide. Transfer the files over Wi-Fi, or put the DiskWarrior disc in another computer and boot over the network.

Michael asks…

Cute laptop case to get for a 15 inch MacBook Pro?

I’m looking into a case and I need help! I want a case that is like good/cute and around $25-$50, not too much please!!!! I need a case to carry my MacBook Pro around with me, I’m talking about one that has a little handle (like a bag/purse) to carry with safety. Any suggestions will go for 10 points!!!!

Please include a picture of the case/what store to get it from.

admin answers:

Http://www.walmart.com/ip/PC-Treasures-SlipIt-15-Laptop-Case-Pink-Notebook/14869318 — walmart $15.60. It also comes in other colors.

You should just try going into Walmart and looking around, I know they have ones in the stores that look like purses. Best Buy also has a decent selection of purse-looking cases, but they’re more expensive. Target would be another cheap place to look for that kind of thing.

Maria asks…

What kind of case should I get for a MacBook Pro?

Most of the cases I’ve found that are Pro-specific look cheap, and the ratings say that dirt gets in between the case and laptop. I don’t want a flimsy case that I have to take off and clean out every few weeks! The regular MacBook has so many more options. Am I just not looking in the right place?

admin answers:

I googled your problem and I came up with these solutions…
-If you want a case that “snaps onto your laptop look here- http://www.macbook-case.com/pl.asp?ci=148796&cn=MacBook-Pro-Cases–2D-15-22
-If you want a sleeve for your macbook pro, look here- http://www.axio-usa.com/hardsleeve15.html

Joseph asks…

What is a good neoprene sleeve case for the new MacBook Pro 13″?

Im just wondering if anyone knows of a good neoprene case for he MacBook I described above. Preferably from somewhere like newegg or walmart. Also, I would prefer if it cost less than $25.
Thanks for your help.

admin answers:

I have the same sleeve as the other responder. But, it’s a little loose on the aluminum 13″ that I have.

Your Questions About Macbook Pro 2012

Linda asks…

I (think I) want a MacBook Pro..?

I have an iPhone 4, and an iPad.

I’ve really needed a laptop for some time. Do not come in here to say “omg apple waste of money” because i have my reasons.

So I am planning to get the 13-inch MacBook Pro (the cheaper version).

I also probably have to pay for a majority of it (MY BIRTHDAY AND Christmas is comin up so that will help :) ) . I currently have 150 bucks saved up, and will most likely sell my iPad 2. Just to throw that in there. Anyways, I just have questions about it.

Will it be fast on websites and games, like GaiaOnline and NeoPets?

Is it fast on downloadable games such as MapleStory or Mabinogi?

Is it fast?

Is it good for an 8th grader student? (I plan to use it probably in 8th and throughout high school)

So yeah. BTW, I am going to be waiting for the 2012 MacBook Pro.

admin answers:

You think? Lol. I’ll hand it to Apple, they are experts in the brainwashing department…

Robert asks…

Should I buy a MacBook Pro for engineering?

Hello. I was wondering if I should invest into a MacBook Pro as I will be studying Biomedical or Electrical engineering for the Fall 2012 semester. I understand that the Mac OSX can run both windows and lion but is the laptop worth buying for engineering classes etc? If not, are there any other recommendations other than a MacBook. By the way, I love the fact that MacBook Pros are virus-proof and have a cleaner OS. Thanks.

admin answers:

Just be aware that you will have to spend $200 to buy windows and put it on your Mac, in addition to the cost of an expensive laptop. As an engineering student, I can almost guarantee that you will need to run a Windows only program at some point during your studies.

Other than that, a Macbook pro should be a great laptop to have at university with its portability and great battery life. Also be careful about calling macs virus-proof. They are certainly less likely to get viruses, but you still need to be careful about what you download etc.

Carol asks…

Will apple come up with a new macbook pro anytime soon?

Like the revolutionary model between the 07 and the 10. Are they going to update it soon, at least, before during 2012?

admin answers:

They’ve been updating it for years and it still isn’t compatible with the software market. You think Apple is going to change their ways and produce something useful?

James asks…

When will macbook air 2012 come out? is it worth the wait?

I need to get a mac laptop before June of next year lol
I’m thinking of buying a Macbook Air 13″.. or should I buy a macbook pro?
Sorry, this is my first mac purchase so I don’t know anything about mac..
I already have a PC laptop good as the 17″ macbook pro so…
I think I only need macbook air..
@AUDI RS4 RULES

Well the thing is, I HAVE to get a mac laptop for school and I think a macbook pro is really
slim and easy to hold… At home, I will be using my PC laptop XD

admin answers:

No buy the macbook pro, 13″ mac air isn’t worth it. Performance wise its not impressive, you’ll need the extra horsepower, Hard drive space, memory, graphics etc. In the long run if you want to keep your laptop for 5+ years. The mac that you buy next year will the the same as today, apple isn’t going to change anything for a while now. Maybe some software tweaks but you can update your mac to keep up. Its not worth the wait and macbook pro is better.

EDIT: Thats exactly what I do, windows XP at home while macbook pro for internet surfing or outside home. But be warned, the commands, you can sometimes get mixed up, I have this issue all the time. For example, windows you copy by using ctrl + C, with mac its Command + C. The thing is, if your using windows PC laptop you would sometimes have a habit of hitting alt + C. Its a memory thing in the brain, it takes time to adjust. And of course the mousepad, you cant use the scroll feature or other features on a windows (not criticizing or against PC but just letting you know!)

IF your going to use your PC at home and macbook JUST for school then portability is what you need. The 13″ macbook air just isn’t worth it when you can pay extra to get a faster processor, more hard disk space, and a CD Drive (Yes macbook air doesn’t have a cd drive, you will need those for time-to-time, it comes in handy)

Macbook pro is fine in portability, shop around a bit, you will find better and cheaper deals online than buying from apple store.

Joseph asks…

when will the new macbook pro be announced/released?

any news or rumors? do you think it will be in late 2011 or early/mid 2012 ?

admin answers:

I think it’s most likely going to be early 2012. The MacRumor’s buyer’s guide should give you an idea of when it will be released.
