Is It Possible To Replace Processors In MacBook Pro’s?
I’m looking at getting a new MacBook Pro and I don’t want to wait till March of 2012 to get one, so I was wondering if it was possible to get one now and when the new line of MacBook Pro‘s come out buy the newest Intel Core Technology available and switch it myself. Or, If that is not possible could I maybe take it to a place like Best Buy or an Apple Store and have them switch them? Help is greatly appreciated and I will add more detail if anyone needs more info.
Oh yea…I never thought of that. The design and inside will most likely change on the new line of Pros. Thank you. So here’s the next question. Buy now, or wait?

You cannot switch the processor; The processor is within the logicboard. No, its not worth the money. You replace the ENTIRE logic board which includes your sound, video cards. Everything will change even your harddrive and your battery (size and cable difference )will change.
Its best to buy a new macbook pro rather than changing the entire logicboard.
EDIT: the socket has nothing do with this, the processor cannot be removed from the logicboard. It is how macbook motherboards are constructed, the whole thing has to go.
Buy now, no point of waiting. Buy online, save money. You waste money when you shop at apple store.
EDIT: thanks lib, I forgot…its video card not chip…sorry for mistake. Thanks for the correction!

Should I make the switch to a macbook pro?
I’ve had a Sony Vaio for three years as of January 2012 and the battery has already given out on me. The laptop has a red cross over the battery and is telling me to replace it. I’m pretty annoyed with how slow it has gotten and how the battery is already not working. If I buy a macbook pro would it be worth it? I’m looking for battery life, speed and apparently a macbook won’t get a virus? I don’t know the first thing about Apple laptops, but I’m willing to switch over if it’s worth it!! Please help!

YES! Mac’s are so much better, they last for so much longer and yes a windows product is much more likely to get a virus compared to apple. I definately advise getting a macbook. I have a hp quadcore and i got it because the price was cheaper than a macbook pro but i regret my decision by not investing a few extra bucks because i already got the blue screen of death and it’s only been 3 months…. Get the mac!

I have a 2011 the one with the Thunderbolt I will say Apple is trying their best to catch up on this one as the software for the laptops are still be adjusted. The main issue is they have a new video card which I have to say is worth it and it does run better than the older one.
Overall I didn’t like it at first now I like it I did find one trick in was to turn off the Graphics Switching in the Energy Saver then the blinking stopped I will say that Tech and R and D are working overtime to get this right as its going to be the standard for the Sandy Bridge Chip

BQ: Should I wait for a possible update in 2012?
admin answers:
It depends on your requirements.
And generally speaking, Apple has a major update each year – and a minor update following. Expect an “update” to all Apple products on this cadence. They’ve used basically the same schedule for many years. This is not different from any other technology company. If you think “waiting for the next update” will provide a good result, consider that if you wait, you will wait forever, because stuff is always being updated. At some point, you need to just jump in.
The MacBook Pro is a full featured laptop with all the various ports for connections you might need – including firewire and now, Thunderbolt. If you do not use a miniDV tape based camcorder or other flash memory camcorder that records to P2 cards or external memory recorders, then you don’t really need firewire. Both the Pro and Air have Thunderbolt – but there aren’t many devices you can connect to it yet – and we don’t know if this is important to you.
If you like having a DVD read/write drive that is internal to the computer rather than external like the MacBook Air, then a MacBook Pro or MacBook is required.
If having a built-in SDXC memory card slot is important, then the MacBook Pro will be lots more convenient than carrying a card reader for the Mac Book Air to provide the same function.
I do video editing – so the MacBook Pro would be the better choice for me. We don’t know what you plan to do with the computer so we don’t know what features you need.

Hey. I use a mac and windows on a daily basis so here it goes.
PROS:
- Very nice interface & stylish
- Great support from apple. If anything breaks, just run over to your local apple store.
- Awesome Software (OSX is by far my favorite)
- Secure (not that mac is more secure but it has fewer viruses then windows just because it recently gained popularity)
- Can run windows if needed
CONS:
- Expensive compared to similar spec pc.
- Expensive connectors (aka extensions) from apple. (like the mac charger is $80)
- Mine gets a semi hot if i play on it too long (i5)
- Fragile Charger (be careful with it or it will break)
Thats about all i can think of atm. Overall i think its worth the price. (just because i love osx so much)
